Ceramic Onlay Video Series: 4 of 4 | Delivery of Porcelain Onlay

Ever wondered what it’s like to see dentistry performed through the lens of a surgical operating microscope?

In this 24 post series, I demonstrate the entire process of performing an Onlay (partial crown) on Molar Tooth No 3.

We will cover:

  • Onlay Preparation & Immediate Dentin Sealing

  • Tooth Treatment Protocol for Bonding

  • Porcelain Treatment Protocol for Bonding

  • **Bonding of Ceramic to Tooth Protocol ** [Current Post]

The tooth has been treated for bonding to the step of primer application and the porcelain surface has been treated for bonding as well (previous posts.)

The resin bottle of Optibond FL has been applied to the intaglio surface of the porcelain and protected from the light. It is also applied to the tooth surface. Warm Z100 is extruded on the tooth and the porcelain is seated. Z100 is the strongest composite in dentistry and will stand the test of time from wear. The marginal seal is competent and long term.

We now have an infinite amount of time for cleanup as the composite will not self-cure. Time is taken to properly remove any excess. DeOx gel is applied over the tooth to block the oxygen inhibited layer prior to light curing.

Excess resin is then removed and polishing completes the procedure prior to checking occlusion.

The joy of dentistry…one tooth at a time!
